Peterson Portable Sawmills

Training in Vanuatu

Layla Robinson

Our Sales Consultant Aaron Kalan, recently returned from his training trip in Vanuatu. We sent four Peterson 8” 27hp Kohler WPF sawmills to Vanuatu to four different islands – Efate, Espiritu Santo, Malakulu and Erromango.

The chiefs of the four islands and Papongi Timbers Ltd organized the mills and set-up training for some of the villagers. They plan to mill timber on their island then export the timber around the world. This operation will provide employment for many young people and the profits will go back into the community to help build a better future for the communities.

With every tree that they mill they will be planting another two in it’s place. At this stage of the project Papongi Timbers Ltd will be working closely with the local forestry department on deciding how to replant the forestry. The main timbers that they plan to mill are Nakatumbo, Kuila and Whitewood.

Aaron spent four days training in Port Vila and one day training in Santo. Being Aaron’s first trip to Vanuatu, he was able to meet with our Agent Santo Engineers.
