Bill Iverson is used to having little helpers around on a regular basis. When he is running his Peterson sawmill it’s not just the mill that he has to watch, but also those little helpers – or sometimes not so little.
On this occasion, a curious moose wandered upon Bill's milling site looking very interested in what was set up in front of him. The WPF mustn't have scared him because he stayed for a while to nibble on nearby trees.
The Alaskan moose (Alces alces gigas) is the largest of all moose and a male in prime condition can weigh up to 1,600 pounds (725kg). With approximately 150,000 moose in the state of Alaska, it’s not surprising that they are becoming a more common sight. Bill also told us he has seen an eight foot brown bear stomping through his milling site this fall.
