In February 2017, we had an opportunity to test a custom-order portable sawmill in photo-perfect conditions.
This All Terrain Sawmill has been custom-made for a new owner in Tahiti. As with all our mills, custom-order machine parts are built to specification in the Peterson factory, put together and tested (usually in our Peterson Headquarters yard), before being broken down again into components, packed with a final check-list, and shipped.
It felt as if we already had fewer daylight hours, so we booked a Saturday morning to ensure we had sufficient time to put the mill through its paces and to make promotional photos and video with our Peterson Sawmill Consultants Aaron Kalan and Ezra Newick.

Aaron, Ezra, and Marketing Manager, Layla Robinson, meet at Aaron’s farm just outside Rotorua and set up the mill. First task is the time-lapse video, showing the custom-order portable mill being unloaded from trailer and set up around the gnarly old pine log we’re using as our test specimen. Aaron does a safety check on the mill before taking the top off the log, adjusts the vertical winch, makes blade adjustments to ensure accuracy, and confirms that the mill is running smoothly. When both Ezra and Aaron are satisfied that the mill is operating to specification, Layla interviews them about the stand-out features of the All Terrain Sawmill.
