Product Description

A portable swingblade sawmill with commercial and industrial production capability – The Peterson ASM (Automated Swingblade Mill) delivers consistent production with less effort. Unlike a traditional bandsaw mill, our swingblade design allows the ASM operator to make horizontal and vertical cuts, change the size or depth of the cut, and remove the previously cut board, all at the touch of a button.

The drive unit is separately motorized to ensure no power is taken from the main sawing head. The drive speed is operated with a lever, which you push to move the mill forward, and pull to bring back towards you, with stationary lock when required.

With the option to upgrade your control box to wireless, it’s as easy as using your television remote. The large faceplate of the sizing dial is easily visible at either end of the mill.

With a range of cut sizes up to 12 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ standard, or 11 1/2″ x 24 1/2″ for double cuts, you can cut wide boards comparable to a bandsaw, but without having to turn the log or resaw a single board. Peterson thin-kerf blades cut straight and true, meaning you can use timber straight off the mill without losing any further recovery to rejects or thicknessing.

The ASM comes standard with a board remover, allowing you to push sawn timber to the far end of the mill, or drag the sawn timber back toward the operator, depending on your site lay-out. The board remover is capable of shifting boards up to 220kg (488lbs). The operator does not have to enter the milling area during sawing, which makes the ASM one of the safest portable sawmills in the world.

These features cement the ASM as the best portable sawmill available world wide. Like all Peterson production frames (WPF, DWS) the ASM can be upgraded to a ‘Giant’ frame, allowing you to saw even larger diameter logs, up to 2m or more. All this, combined with the many different power options available, makes the ASM a versatile and robust work horse for any industrial operation.

Controls at your Fingertips

All controls and adjustments for operating the Peterson ASM are located at the operators end of the sawmill. Optional wireless upgrade means you can walk around the site with controls right there in your hand still. Ideal for fixed operation, full time commercial and industrial sawmilling. No walking or rolling logs, just straight production.

Wireless Control Option

The optional handheld wireless control upgrade, eliminates the 12v cable between the operators station and the milling head, giving the operator total freedom to move about the site and operate from any position, while maintaining full control.

Dual-end Board Remover

The Peterson ASM is the only portable sawmill in the world with the original Peterson dual-end board remover, that can slide boards off EITHER end of the log. This makes the ASM extremely versatile either as a one-man operation where the board can be brought back to the operator, or for fully commercial operations where the boards can be fed off the rear end to a stacking table or tail-out person. The board remover is capable of sliding beams up to a massive 488lbs (220kg).

World Leading Stability

The Peterson Hi/Lo track set up comes standard on the ASM and can be extended to any length at the time of purchase, or later as need arises.
The Hi/Lo set-up provides the optimum structural support to the box-frame design, where the two opposite corners of the sawmill are braced, providing the best stability, accuracy and safety. It also raises the track to avoid sawdust build up, allowing for easy access to remove shavings.

Electric Height Adjustment

Standard with the ASM model, the electric winch allows touch button control of the frame height. Not only does it make for faster resetting, but sizing is more accurate due to raising and lowering the frame while you sight and line up to the log.

100% Electric Option

Traditional gas powered ASM models operate a main petrol motor from 25hp to 40hp. Petersons are proud to also offer a fully electric model with a 15kw 3 phase motor. Ideal for fixed use, indoor/workshop applications and low emissions.

Accurate, Safe Sizing

All Peterson Portable Sawmills left/right sizing system is run by chain and sprocket, with a turning handle and lock. So that means it will only move when you unlock it, and you can position the sizing very accurately to within 1mm. No slippage, and top accuracy for every board.

Durable, Low Maintenance Blades

Our Peterson Blades last for 2-6 years with normal use and maintenance. However, some swing blade sawmill owners have been using the same blades for over 10 years! To decrease downtime, the Peterson blade can be sharpened while it is still on the mill; in less than 10 minutes, and without having to remove any guards.

Elevated Engines with Cyclonic Air Filters

We mount our sawmill engines higher than other manufacturers to ensure the air filter intake is further away from the sawdust output, helping prevent sawdust build up and overheating of the motor. Specifying Cyclonic Air Filters to separate clean air from debris and liquids also helps to improve the lifespan of your engine, with the added bonus that these filters last up to three times longer than standard duty filters.

Built to Last

All Peterson Sawmills are manufactured from scratch in our Rotorua, New Zealand factory and come standard with a 24-month return-to-factory warranty on the frame which includes all bed framing, track and carriage material manufactured by Petersons Global Sales Limited. We also offer an extended five-year frame warranty. This option can be included at time of purchase.
